Kids Yoga Summer Camp: DC Adventurer – K-3rd Gr

DC is a great place to be a kid. Campers will do several outings this week to explore the community in which we live and many of the fun, fabulous and things to do around our city.

Depending on the optimal timing of outings, we may do our yoga activities in the morning or the afternoon. There will be less emphasis on arts and crafts during this camp week as compared to most.

Campers will get to outings by public transportation or on foot. Campers must be prepared for a decent amount of walking and be able to carry their own backpack containing their lunch and water bottle.

Frequently Asked Questions About Camp:

We will do lots of yoga and yoga games, but that’s not all. We’ll do arts and crafts or themed activities every day. Unless weather is terrible, we’ll walk to a nearby playground for lunch and outdoor time. We’ll have quiet time every day for both nappers and non-nappers. We work a lot of free-play time into our camp between organized activities as well.

Summer Camp - Field trip! Botanic garden, 2015

Field trip! Botanic garden, 2015

Camp schedule varies depending on activities of the day and if we have a field trip scheduled. For camps that enroll PK, we may separate younger and older campers for some activities and outings.

School Year Camp Schedule Variations: Field trip outings during the school year are most common in the afternoons and on bad weather days.

Summer or Spring Break Schedule Variations: Occasionally we will need to depart for a camp trip by 9 or 9:30 am and be gone through lunch, meaning our main yoga class those days will happen in the afternoon. Water play days – typically Yards Park or Canal Park – mean an extended outdoor/lunch time and a shorter, very low key afternoon yoga time.

Senses & Science – PK4-4rd Grade

Expect momentum, reactions, and more . . . as we explore our experience of the physical world: beginning chemistry and physics.

There are extra spots for PK4 this week and those campers may register day-by-day to accommodate DCPS staggered starts.

Campers – especially 1st-4th graders – will get to outings by public transportation or on foot so must be prepared for a decent amount of walking and be able to carry their own backpack containing their lunch and water bottle.

Who: Our camps are intimate compared to many. We cap most weeks at 18 campers and maintain a minimum 6:1 camper:staff ratio. Our PreK (PK4) registration accommodates 6-8 campers on weeks open to 4-year-olds. Both groups operate as one camp unless noted.

Age Ranges: We follow DCPS age guidelines for grade assignment. PreK campers must be 4 years old by Sept 30, 2018 to be eligible.

*Rising PK4 summer campers and younger siblings must also be fully bathroom independent, be able to stay with the group at parks and playgrounds, and have enough stamina to walk to public transportation for outings.

Younger Siblings: We allow a limited number of younger siblings from one grade below the stated range in any given week. Rising PK3 siblings may only attend during weeks open to PK4. Please contact us before enrolling out-of-age-range siblings each time you enroll. (Note: sibling discounts don’t kick in until March. Use early registration discount until then.)

cit reads to prek campersRising 6th-8th graders are invited to participate while building leadership skills by helping younger campers: apply to be Counselors in Training (CITs) and register at a 50% discount. We may allow alumni rising 5th graders to participate as CITs during weeks when the next oldest students are rising 3rd grade; most likely if we have recent experience with your child so are familiar with their maturity level. Teens 14 years or older are welcome to apply for paid positions with camp.
