Baby Yoga & Play is for newborn to pre-crawling babies and their grownup(s) contains dozens of yoga-inspired movements, postures, songs, rhymes and activities designed to support baby’s development. Babies participate while on their backs, tummies, or held in loving arms. Each class is filled with calming, nurturing ways to enhance bonding, soothe the inevitable cranky moments, and improve baby’s sleep.
For grownups, this class is a special opportunity to meet other parents and caregivers, get support, and learn about baby’s emerging personality. Grownups will also get to do a bit of postpartum-appropriate yoga themselves, including strength- and flexibility-building postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques to address common physical complaints and mental/emotional stressors during the new-parent period.

Tips for a Great Class
- Baby Yoga & Play classes do use yoga mats, but most venues have enough to lend if you’d rather not carry one.
- Please bring a baby blanket to cover our mats/blankets and a small toy to use during class.
- Expect your baby to be a baby and know that their voice is welcome. Crying, eating, diaper changes, and sleeping is all perfectly fine during class.
- Please wear comfortable, stretchy clothes. While this is a movement class, it is not what most would describe as a workout, so full yoga/exercise attire is not necessary. Wear clothing that will allow you to sit on the floor and move around easily (jeans are typically not ideal).
- Please bring only water or milk/formula in closed top containers into the yoga classroom. Feeding your baby – breast or bottle – is always welcome.
- Late registration may be possible for the first third of the semester. Fees automatically prorate.
- Public venue classes are limited to 14 families. Please register early. Classes with insufficient enrollment a week in advance of course start may be cancelled.
- Appropriate from nearly crawling through 24 months.
- Moms, dads, grandparents or other caregivers welcome. No previous yoga experience necessary; be prepared/dressed for movement.
- Any of your child’s favorite grownups are welcome in this class – ie. mom, dad, grandparent, nanny. Up to two adults are welcome on weekly basis, and the same adult need not be present every time.
- Twins and nanny shares welcome. Two babies attending with two adults should each be registered; sibling discount is automatic. Two babies with one caregiver are welcome too, but because so much of this class is hands-on, we only charge for one baby. Please do one of the following:
- One caregiver registering twins should register one child and email us to add the second to the roster.
- Both families in a nanny share must register so we have proper emergency contacts and waivers signed. Both families should use the discount code NANNYSHARE50 to take half off registration and make a note on the registration of the share partner and nanny attending.
- If students must miss a class, they are welcome to attend any other appropriate class as a makeup within 4 weeks of the original series, or bring a friend to class as a makeup. See makeup class FAQs for details.

About the Venue
Lighthouse Yoga is located at 502 Kennedy St. NW, Washington, DC.
Street parking is available in the neighborhood.
Doors will open fifteen minutes before class and are generally locked ten minutes after class begins. If the door is locked when you arrive, please call or text the Breathing Space number posted on the door and someone will come let you in. The studio is located on the second floor. Take the stairs as soon as you enter the building, then follow the hallway to Lighthouse Yoga’s studio door at the end.
Most personal belongings in the studio’s storage cubbies, but please being all valuables into the studio with you.
Strollers may be parked in the hallway outside the studio doors.
Lighthouse Yoga recommends that students visiting the studio remember they are in an urban neighborhood, and that they remain aware of their surroundings when arriving and departing the studio.
Be sure to pack any dirty diapers out with you.
About the Instructor
Meredith began her own yoga practice over 15 years ago – first to get a little exercise and later to try to find sanity and balance despite a stressful job as a consultant. She stuck with yoga thanks to a welcoming and vibrant yoga community. Early in her practice she was drawn to an alignment-based school of teaching, connecting to a clear and thoughtful way of articulating poses, an invitation to participate fully and creatively in everyday life, and the fact that laughter on the mat was not only tolerated, but encouraged. She has continued to grow and share her love of the practice ever since. When her first son was born in 2013, she started to take infant, then toddler classes, and her family has continued the journey together. Meredith carries a sense of playfulness into her classes for both children and grownups, and is excited to share with students of all ages the joys and challenges that yoga reveals both on and off the mat.
