Pregnancy & Postpartum Yoga - Prenatal & Postnatal Classes — Capitol Hill, DC

From the first trimester through the fourth — and beyond.
Becoming a parent rewires everything. Before baby arrives, you're making decisions of enormous consequence with no frame of reference — about birth, about feeding, about what kind of parent you want to be — and caring about the answers more than you've cared about anything. After baby arrives, the decisions keep coming, the sleep doesn't, and somewhere in the relentless needs of a new person, your sense of self can quietly get lost.
Yoga can't fix all of that. Not really — except that it kind of can. Class gives you an hour — once a week, in a room with people who are in the same disorienting stretch — to come back to yourself. To find your footing. To breathe deliberately, move intentionally, and remember that you have a body that belongs to you. By regrounding and reframing, you may find that yoga makes all the rest of it easier.
The physical benefits are real too: strength and flexibility for a changing body, relief from the specific complaints of pregnancy and postpartum, and the endurance that labor and early parenthood actually require.
Wherever you are in that arc, there's a class here for you.
Prenatal Yoga

An all-levels class for all trimesters, built around what pregnancy actually demands — strength, breath, focus, and the resilience to meet labor prepared. Modified postures, breathwork, vocal toning, guided meditation, and relaxation, taught by an instructor who knows this territory deeply.
Research suggests the benefits are greatest for those who begin at 12 weeks or earlier. Whenever you start, you'll find a welcoming room and a practice that meets you where you are.
Postnatal Yoga
For parents recovering from childbirth — whether six weeks ago or several decades ago. Postnatal yoga at Breathing Space focuses on core restoration, pelvic floor awareness, stability, and breathwork for a nervous system running on not enough sleep. Strength builds gradually, without pressure or performance.
Postnatal classes run in six-week series — shorter by design, because maternity leave doesn't last forever. Daytime weekday classes welcome babies. Evening and weekend classes are for parents only, unless noted.

What our students say
Prenatal yoga was a weekly treat for me during my pregnancy. After class I always felt stronger and more centered – better prepared for childbirth and parenthood. Before the prenatal course, I didn't have much interest in yoga, but Jen's course made me a believer. I look forward to continuing my yoga practice in the future.
