Join us for just yoga & art part day or staff-guided independant projects and group games in the afternoon as well.


Morning or afternoon options. Final schedule will depend on how many students enroll and how many separate classes (zoom rooms) we run. Some groups may convene and do yoga first, others will start with art. There will be a short snack break between activities.

Cost $125-250 per student (10% sibling discount) 

  • rising K-4th – full day or half day (morning or afternoon)
  • rising PK – AM yoga only – costs $65 per week.
    Contact us to sign up for PK Yoga only. Rising PK students are welcome to participate along-side older siblings for other activities at no charge. If you think your PK student without an enrolled sibling is ready to participate in both yoga and art, please contact us. 

Minimum enrollment for any week is 6 per registration group: K-4th.

Afternoon camp is currently only scheduled for the weeks of June 15, August 17, and August 24.

At yoga camp, we do art every day!  That won’t change when we go virtual. The kids love it, we love it, and its a great practice in mindfulness and getting into flow. Half day camper art class will require basic supplies that parents should plan to provide. Full day campers will do additional projects for which we may provide specialty supplies.

Full Day – K-4th

Imagine/Create/Outside Time. Choices will include:

  • Independant work on Breathing Space projects such as additional art projects, engineering challenges, backyard naturalist activities, and more. 
  • Student chosen activities
    • Reading
    • Music practice
    • Exercise outside
    • Building or creative play with toys
    • Summer school assignments as needed

Staff will be available for guidance in Zoom throughout this time, but projects are completed offline.

2 PM Optional storytime and coloring club in Zoom for students done with independent projects.
3 PM Reconvene for group games, afternoon project sharing, and second escape room puzzle. 

Morning – PK-8th

 Classes divided by age group: K-4th (or PK-1st, 2nd-4th) and 5th-8th

10:20 – 11:30 AM Mindful Art
This will be a staff instructed, open ended project. Students may sign off when they are done or continue as long as they like.


Afternoon – K-4th only

1:00 – 2:15 PM Yoga
Classes divided by age group.

Please create an account in the parent/guardian name, then add your child as a family member and assign registration to the child.

visual summary of refund policy

In light of the current situation, we are updating our summer camp refund policy to provide additional flexibility. Deadlines and non-refundable deposits enable Breathing Space to organize staffing and plan, compensate us for the staff time involved in managing waitlists and registration changes, and discourage registrants from holding camp spots they do not intend to use.

Normal policy (summary):

  • If parents cancel before May 31, refund – $100 per child/week deposit.
  • If we cancel, full refund.
    Read in full.

New Cancelation Grace Period and COVID19-Triggered Summer 2020 Policy:

Please note these policies are based on the currently published school scheduled. If DCPS adjusts Fall 2020 start dates, additional flexibility will apply to affected weeks. Aftercare is always refunded when associated with a camp refund.

We will begin processing refund requests the week of May 4 and do so approximately weekly after that. It will then take a few days to appear on your payment card, so please allow two weeks for this process.


  • If we cancel, full refund.

We are treating in-person camp and virtual camp as two separate offerings. You may transfer between them, but if we cancel in-person camp that is us cancelling your registration. You may choose to transfer to virtual or not at that time. We do not hold deposits when we cancel no matter when that happens.

By May 15

  • If parent cancels after health emergency was declared and by May 15 = full refund (We are waiving the deposit requirement and admin fees).
  • If parent transfers any camp week registrations to our virtual camp by May 31 = refund of price difference + 10% (earlybird registration discount)

This is option is for parents who know now that they are not comfortable with in-person camp this summer. You may choose to transfer to virtual and take advantage of the early-bird promotional discount.

By May 31

  • If parent cancels after May 15 but by May 31 = refund – $100 per child/week deposit.
  • If parent transfers to our virtual offering by May 31 =  refund of price difference + 10%

This option is our regular policy plus and incentive to switch to virtual camp if have realized you need to back out of in-person camp.

After May 31 AND More Than 4 Weeks Before Camp

  • If parent cancels but does not transfer more than four weeks before enrolled camp weeks starts = 50% refund.
  • If a parent transfers into a virtual offering more than four weeks before = refund of price difference – $20 admin fee.

This is Summer 2020 special flexibility and applies if it is after May 31 and we are still running in-person camp, but your comfort level or plans have changed and you are able to give us 4 weeks notice. You retain most of your deposit value if you switch to virtual.

After May 31 AND Within 4 Weeks of Camp

  • If parent cancels within four weeks = no refund.
  • If – on a week camp is running in person – a parent transfers into a virtual offering less than four weeks before camp = refund of price difference – $100 deposit.

This applies if we are still running in-person camp, but your comfort level or plans have changed LAST MINUTE. You may still transfer and take a partial refund. Deposit is not refunded.

What if DCPS starts in August and we can no longer attend?

That would generally be considered an event outside of your control and a special exception – even if it happens to a lot of people. We would issue a full refund.

Same thing applies if a family member contracts COVID-19. That would be considered a significant family emergency that justifies a policy exception.

What if my child hates virtual camp?

Refund – $20 per week admin fee to withdraw, capped at $50 per child.


Anytime – Full refund for aftercare if associated with camp refund request or when transferring to virtual camp.

While we are excited about the potential, virtual camp is not the same as in-person camp.

Our team has been teaching yoga and mindful art activities over Zoom since COVID19 social distancing began. Our experience has lead us to the following age recommendations in summer virtual programming.

Rising Middle-school – Full Day Programming

Our day-long programming involves both staff-led and camper-led interactive, online activities over Zoom AND offline projects. There are a wide-variety of project topics for campers to choose from and our staff will offer

Rising 1st Grade and up – All programming.

Our part-day programming includes just the yoga and mindful art components.

Rising K – Part-day programming only.

Day-long programing involves self-driven, offline projects that will be difficult for 5-year-olds to execute on their own. If you or a caregiver are comfortable providing assistance and your child really wants to participate in the rest of Brain Chase camp, contact us.

Rising PK – Yoga only

We find 3 and 4 year olds have trouble following along with art projects on Zoom, but movement classes might be perfect.

We won’t be able to to confirm in which hour of the 2.5 hour program yoga will be held until we finalize our Zoom class schedules for the week, closer to camp start.

If you think your PK camper should participate in both aspects of part-time PK camp and you are prepared to provide additional assistance with arts & crafts if needed, please contact us. 

Younger Sibling Participation and Discounts

Sibling discounts in either full-day or part-day camp should be automatic. They only apply when two children sign up for the same program. If you are signing up for two different part-day groups, contact us about applying your discount.

If you have a rising PK or K child and older children, the younger sibling is welcome to participate in the older child’s Brain Chase elective or mindful art activities at no charge. However, the younger student should be enrolled in the age-appropriate yoga class. Contact us with any questions.

In addition to our daily, interactive yoga class, group puzzle solving, and games, campers will choose 2-3 independent, offline projects to complete. We’ll then get together at the end of the day and report back.

Campers can choose from a dozen or so subjects on the Brain Chase dashboard. There will be a new project daily, which will take an hour or less to complete. Some parental supervision will be required, and more for some electives than others, so we are happy to assist with selections. And, if you don’t like your choices, you can change them.

Breathing Space staff will offer check-ins for accountability and optional “office hours” for troubleshooting and camaraderie. Supply lists for electives will be provided in advance.

Art with Thorpe Studios

Some of our campers can’t get enough of art, so this is for them. A new project challenge every day to completed with typical household supplies.

Backyard Naturalist

This is a Breathing Space created elective to encourage students to observe the natural world. Scavenger hunts and observation activities can be completed on daily walks or in the backyard. We are filming this right now, so sample video coming soon!

Cooking with Edible Education

Chef Ann from Edible Education is a master of preparing simple, healthy, and delicious recipes. With each challenge, students will watch Ann prepare one of her favorites. They’ll then download the recipe and follow her lead.

Engineering with Leo Labs

With each challenge, Miss Brooklyn, a scientist, engineer, and tinkerer from the Leonardo Museum will treat Brain Chase students to a new Leo Labs webisode showcasing a different science or engineering project. They’ll watch the video, then replicate the experiment on their own using everyday household materials.

Entrepreneurship with Acton Children’s Business Fair

The Acton Children’s Business Fair is excited to bring your student real-life business experience, an opportunity rarely experienced as a child. This unique elective will teach your student the basics of running a business, from budgeting to keeping inventory, to pricing and understanding profits and losses.

Ninja Warrior Fitness

Meet David Yarter, a three-time contender on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior, SGX-certified Trainer, and owner of Power Park Fitness in San Antonio, Texas. David will take your student on a fitness adventure unlike any they will encounter anywhere else. This is one of our most time-intensive electives. Your child will dedicate 30-60 minutes a week to fitness.

Math with Khan Academy

 It’s what it sounds like. At first log in, Brain Chase adventurers will adjust the curriculum to their level. From there, students can select any math skill and get to work completing practice exercises. Brain Chase tracks the points you earn in Khan Academy so you get credit for your work.

Music Practicing

Self explanatory? Build some incentives and structure around daily music practice for whatever you child is learning.

Mindful Arts & Crafts

Does your camper adore Breathing Space mindful art activities? Mindful art focuses more the process than the product, so many activities don’t require special supplies. But there will be an add-on kit for unusual craft supplies for this elective so campers can make things like eye pillows, mind-jars, and other projects that reinforce what we do in yoga class (one special supplies project per week).

Mindful art will have video instruction just like the other electives, but Miss Jessica is finding that her students really enjoy creating with the Zoom window open so they can ask questions and talk with their friends. So optional mindful art “office hours” will be scheduled each day.


With cameras on most phones these days, chances are our kids are going to be taking photographs for their entire lives. Whether they’re into selfies or still-life photography, this elective will teach them basic photography skills such as composition, lighting, focal length, and more. Brain Chase photographers are standing by to provide personalized feedback and encouragement each week. We can’t wait to see what they create!

Reading with Google Books

Some Breathing Space campers always have a book with them and read every chance they get. Wonderful, this is for them! Students may choose to read off-line and have their parents report their reading hours via our dashboards or track their reading by using Google Books.

Study Hall

Is your child trying to keep up with lessons or academic work this summer? You can use this elective to build incentives and accountability into that routine. You can also use this elective to provide more free-time in your camper’s day.

Got a storyteller? This elective covers different aspects of writing, and students will be given several different writing prompts to choose from. After the students submit their work, Brain Chase will review each entry and provide customized feedback.

Returning campers will recognize our daily flow, mindfulness activities, crafts, and games from summers past. New campers will learn the rhythm quickly. Here are a few notes, in either case, about what to expect.


are for structure. This is when campers are fresh and best able to focus. We’ll spend most of the morning in a Zoom room interacting and being active. Yoga and guided art will happen during this time. We’ll be in the same Zoom meeting all morning with a break for snack, so once your campers are set up, you shouldn’t need to be involved in tech support.

Please be sure your camper is wearing their play clothes! We’re going to have them stretching, crawling, jumping, and sometimes working with messy art supplies. They’ll be able to participate more fully if they are easily able to move.


are for independent creative play. We’ll give your campers lots of options for projects and activities. Our focus is on creating, building, resting, and getting outside. Each camp week will feature suggested activities for campers to use their open afternoon time to complete. We strongly encourage you to get your kids outside during this time, if at all possible–even if its just a quick walk around the block or eating lunch on the balcony.

You’ll want to review the weekly activities ahead of time. Our goal is to set your camper up to need your help and attention as little as possible during the camp day, but some activities will need more parent set-up and involvement than others, especially for younger campers. By getting a sense of which activities your camper might be interested in, you’ll be better able to plan out your week and avoid a messy art project on the same day as your weekly team presentation.

We’ve seen that different children handle online activities and instruction in different ways. Some of your campers will join a Zoom meeting and be online all day, happily. Others may drift in and out of activities. Some children crave social interaction and will want to participate in every social opportunity we provide. Another group actually feels the distance from their friends more acutely when viewing them through a screen, and they may surprise you by opting out of lunch dates or coloring club. There’s no wrong way to do yoga camp!

You may already have most of these supplies. If not, affiliate links are provided below, but certainly buy locally, or purchase from us. Most of these items should be easy to find at Target or CVS.  In many cases, shopping locally will be cheaper than ordering from Amazon.

Supplies Needed For ALL Campers – Parent Supplied:

(This kit contains markers, crayons and colored pencils and can be a great investment if your camper is generally artistic and doesn’t already have most of these things on hand.)

Supplies Needed for Select Weeks – Parent Supplied:

  • Household/toiletries, such as
    • cardboard,
    • corn syrup,
    • corn starch,
    • cotton balls,
    • dish soap,
    • paper plates,
    • q-tips,
    • rice,
    • shaving cream, or
    • toilet paper tubes.
  • Liquid food coloring OR liquid watercolors
  • Oil Pastels
  • Play Doh (homemade is fine, we can provide a recipe)
  • Tempera* or Acrylic Paints

We will send a supply list out 7 days in advance so if there are any special supplies needed for planned art projects so that you have time to gather them.

We expect many, but not all of our families have the occasional art supplies in the list above. Breathing Space plans to provide a for-purchase kit of these occasional or harder-to-find items which can be added on to the specialty supplies kit we’ll provide. For example, apparently kids tempera paint kits in bottles of 3-4 oz are sold out everywhere, so we are purchasing full gallons to divide up for families that need them.

Breathing Space Art Supply Kits:

Afternoon art projects (and very occasional morning projects) will require what we consider to be “specialty” supplies. These supplies may include plastic bottles, specialty paper (water color, card stock, tissue), acrylic paint, and air dry clay.

Kits will be available and mailed or delivered (as part of camp tuition cost) to all campers enrolled at least 8 days before the start of a camp week when those supplies will be needed. Last minute registrants can pick up their kits from Jen’s porch near Potomac Ave Metro for pay for them to be express shipped.

Afternoon Coloring Club Supplies:

Each afternoon, we’ll host an optional coloring club/storytime for full day campers. Our mandalas are always super popular coloring pages. These will be available for parents to print at home. If you do not have access to a printer and let us know, we can supply hard copies to campers enrolled at least 8 days before the start of a camp week.
