Summer 2021 Dates TBD – Breathing Space has operated as a mobile program, with no fixed location of our own and partnering with yoga studios, churches, and other community venues to offer classes. While we hope to offer in-person summer camp in 2021- likely the week starting June 28 and for several weeks in August – we have not yet secured a location.
More detail: Since COVID-19, all of Capitol Hill’s yoga studios have permanently closed. As of this writing (Jan 22), most churches are still not open for worship services or parish activities and are unwilling to commit to community use yet for summer. Got any other ideas? We need a large indoor room or two, bathrooms and kitchen facilities, storage space, and ideally access to a yard. (We would consider year-round rentals.)
Why Yoga Camp?
Breathing Space summer camp provides children with a fun, creative, educational, and enriching experience through yoga movement classes, mindfulness activities, relaxation, games, crafts, field trips and outdoor time.
Each week-long camp is sure to create lasting memories, new friendships, and a foundation for health and well-being!
Yoga and mindfulness can help children build self-regulatory skills, resilience, social awareness, and confidence, as well as gross-motor skills, strength, and fitness. Through yoga, children learn techniques for concentrating, reducing stress, and connecting to their bodies in a loving way while having fun.
Breathing Space Kids Yoga Camp takes the lessons we learn in our yoga and mindfulness practice and expand on them to a full week of activities. Of course we do lots of yoga and yoga games, but that’s not all.
- We’ll do arts and crafts or themed activities every day.
- We typically do at least one theme-based outing every week.
- Unless weather is terrible, we’ll walk to a nearby playground for lunch and outdoor time daily.
- We will have some form of quiet relaxation time every day for both nappers and non-nappers.
- We work a lot of free-play time into our camp between organized activities as well.
Camp Location & Hours
Summer 2020 camps are TBD
- 8:30 am-3:45 pm – Yoga Camp,
- Pending epidemelogical best practices and regulatory requirements: 3:45-5:45 pm – Aftercare with Games Club class by Labyrinth Games & Puzzles
Campers not staying for games should be picked up between 3:45-4 pm so we can start snack promptly at 4 pm. Thanks.
Camp Dates & Grade Ranges
Our camps are intimate compared to many. We cap most weeks at 16 or 18 campers and maintain a minimum 6:1 camper:staff ratio. Our campers and counselors get to know each other and make lasting friendships.
With pre-approval, we also allow a very limited number of rising PK4 younger siblings who have experience with Breathing Space classes to attend weeks open to K-4th graders. See FAQs for our age policies, including younger sibling enrollment. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate rising PK3 students.
Rising 5th-8th graders are invited to apply to be a counselor in training. CITs are campers enrolled at half price who participate in all activities and help counselors prepare activities and manage younger campers. Learn more.
All summer camp grade ranges refer to Fall 2020 grades.
Waitlists: Watilist registration opens automatically when camp fills and may not be reflected in the table above.
Please DO NOT enroll in aftercare if you do not have a confirmed spot in that week.
We are not able to predict waitlist movement. Sometimes, we have no changes at all while other times, we have several families change plans. Late in the season, we may contact families many deep into the waitlist before we find someone who still needs camp. If you are interested in being contacted with availability, please sign up for the appropriate waitlists.
Tuition & Deposits
MAY CHANGE: Tuition is $400 per week plus a $20 per student registration fee to cover camp t-shirts and other supplies. The first $100 of tuition is a non-refundable deposit (read more in FAQs and pricing policies).
Early registration discount: registration fee waived until Feb 15.
MAY NOT BE OFFERED IN 2021: Extended day $75 per week - Campers are welcome to join extended day with Games Club with Labyrinth until 5:45 pm. We offer a snack (air popped popcorn) before games club and campers are welcome to eat anything left from their packed lunch at that time if they like.
Please register early for Games Club. Extended day pricing increases to $100 per week 2 weeks before camp.

At #yogacamp, we do art every day! That won’t change when we go virtual. The kids love it, we love it, and its a great practice in mindfulness and getting into flow. Morning art class will require basic supplies that parents should plan to provide.
You may already have most of these supplies. If not, affiliate links are provided below, but certainly buy locally, or purchase from us. Most of these items should be easy to find at Target or CVS. In many cases, shopping locally will be cheaper than ordering from Amazon.

(This kit contains markers, crayons and colored pencils and can be a great investment if your camper is generally artistic and doesn’t already have most of these things on hand.)

We will send a supply list out 7 days in advance so if there are any special supplies needed for planned art projects so that you have time to gather them.
We expect many, but not all of our families have the occasional art supplies in the list above. Breathing Space plans to provide a for-purchase kit of these occasional or harder-to-find items which can be added on to the specialty supplies kit we’ll provide. For example, apparently kids tempera paint kits in bottles of 3-4 oz are sold out everywhere, so we are purchasing full gallons to divide up for families that need them.
Breathing Space Art Supply Kits:
Afternoon art projects (and very occasional morning projects) will require what we consider to be “specialty” supplies. These supplies may include plastic bottles, specialty paper (water color, card stock, tissue), acrylic paint, and air dry clay.
Kits will be available and mailed or delivered (as part of camp tuition cost) to all campers enrolled at least 8 days before the start of a camp week when those supplies will be needed. Last minute registrants can pick up their kits from Jen’s porch near Potomac Ave Metro for pay for them to be express shipped.
Afternoon Coloring Club Supplies:
Each afternoon, we’ll host an optional coloring club/storytime for full day campers. Our mandalas are always super popular coloring pages. These will be available for parents to print at home. If you do not have access to a printer and let us know, we can supply hard copies to campers enrolled at least 8 days before the start of a camp week.
