Breathing Space Family Yoga Summer Camp

Why Yoga Camp?

Breathing Space summer camp provides children with a fun, creative, educational, and enriching experience through yoga movement classes, mindfulness activities, relaxation, games, crafts, field trips and outdoor time.

Each week-long camp is sure to create lasting memories, new friendships, and a foundation for health and well-being!

Yoga and mindfulness can help children build self-regulatory skills, resilience, social awareness, and confidence, as well as gross-motor skills, strength, and fitness. Through yoga, children learn techniques for concentrating, reducing stress, and connecting to their bodies in a loving way while having fun.

Breathing Space Kids Yoga Camp takes the lessons we learn in our yoga and mindfulness practice and expand on them to a full week of activities.  Of course we do lots of yoga and yoga games, but that’s not all.

  • We’ll do arts and crafts or themed activities every day.
  • Summer 2021 pending public health guidance/regulations: No field trips other than walking visits to local playgrounds. We typically do at least one theme-based outing every week.
  • Unless weather is terrible, we’ll walk to a nearby playground for lunch and outdoor time daily.
  • We will have some form of quiet relaxation time every day for both nappers and non-nappers.
  • We work a lot of free-play time into our camp between organized activities as well.

Please read this page fully to understand the changes we’ve made to Summer Yoga Camp for 2021 and the COVID protocols we have put into place to keep our campers and staff safe and healthy.

Summer 2021 Camps

Camp Location & Hours

2021 Summer Yoga Camp will be held at Christ Church (6th & G SE).

  • 9 am-3:00 pm – Yoga Camp
Campers not enrolled in aftercare should be picked up between 2:45-3pm so we can begin snack for expended dat campers promptly at 3pm. Thanks.
  • 3 pm-5:00 pm - Aftercare
Unfortunately, our friends at Labyrinth Games & Puzzles are unable to offer Games Club this summer. Any extended day programming, it will be staffed by Breathing Space instructors the summer.

We are currently maintaining a waitlist for aftercare.  We must meet a minimum enrollment of 6 campers to offer aftercare on any given week. Registered campers should join the waitlist if they would like extended day programming. Please do not join the waitlist until you have a confirmed spot for camp that week.

Aftercare is confirmed for the weeks of June 28 and August 9.

2021 COVID Precautions*

Campers will be required to wear a well fitted face covering that seals securely above the nose and below the chin at all times except when they are sitting and eating. No gaters, bandanas, or mesh.

Adult staff will be fully vaccinated.

Camp will be held outdoors whenever possible.  We have large tents available for shade and will make plenty on on-site water play available for hot days. We have indoor space available for especially inclement weather or specific activities, but expect your camper to be outside a lot.

We will follow all DC public health guidance and protocols as well as any rules set by the venues.

It is highly likely that parents will not be allowed to enter the buildings and that late arrivals or early pickup will not be allowed.

Please review our refund policy prior to registering your campers.  It has been expanded to cover instances of COVID exposure.

Tuition & Deposits

Tuition is $400 per week plus a $20 per student registration fee to cover camp t-shirts and other supplies.

The first $100 of tuition is a non-refundable deposit (read more in FAQs and pricing policies). If you elect to pay the deposit-only during registration, you must save your payment card to your profile and the balance will be charged on June 1.

MAY NOT BE OFFERED IN 2021: Extended day $80 per week -  Campers are welcome to join extended day with Games Club with Labyrinth until 5:45 pm. We offer a snack (air popped popcorn) before games club and campers are welcome to eat anything left from their packed lunch at that time if they like.

Please register early for Games Club. Extended day pricing increases to $100 2 weeks before camp.

Group Sizes and Ages

Our camps are intimate compared to many. Typically, we cap most weeks at 16 or 18 campers and maintain a minimum 6:1 camper:staff ratio. Our campers and counselors get to know each other and make lasting friendships. Camp is for rising K-4th graders unless otherwise noted.

All summer camp grade ranges refer to Fall 2021 grades.

With pre-approval, we also allow a very limited number of rising PK4 younger siblings who have experience with Breathing Space classes to attend weeks open to K-4th graders. See FAQs for our age policies, including younger sibling enrollment. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate rising PK3 students.

SUMMER 2021: Camps are capped at 16 campers with 3 fully vaccinated adult staff.

Waitlists

Waitlist registration opens automatically when camp fills and may not be reflected in the table above. Please DO NOT enroll in aftercare if you do not have a confirmed spot in that week.

Counselors in Training: 5th-8th Gr

Rising 5th-8th graders are invited to apply to be a counselor in training. CITs are campers enrolled at half price who participate in all activities and help counselors prepare activities and help manage younger campers. Learn more.

Common Questions

Breathing Space has had a chronic problem of last minute additions to camp aftercare. While accommodating one or two campers isn’t usually a problem, sometimes we get half a dozen last minute additions in the week before a camp and sometimes several on the morning of camp.

We get that life is sometimes unpredictable and last minute changes happen and want to help, but we suspect a fair amount of the last minute additions are caused by parents not being sure of their after camp plan when they sign up and then forgetting to do anything about it until days before or even the day of camp.

Last minute additions to aftercare sometimes leave us or the Labyrinth education director scrambling to add staff to aftercare or push us over our desired camper to staff ratios.

Aftercare costs $16 per day until two weeks before camp. After that, it’s $20 per day.

We hate to cancel camp. We know parents are counting on camp and our staff are counting on the work. If we cancel camp before the start of the week (or day for school-year camps), we issue refunds.

School Year Camps may be cancelled due to low enrollment 14 days in advance of camp. Within 14 days, we would only cancel due to weather or another emergency.

Summer Camp cancellations are unusual and will be made based on enrollment projections by May 31.

SUMMER 2021: We may cancel camp if public health guidance/regulation closes our venue or otherwise requires it or in the case of COVID-19 exposure by campers. If camp is closed before the week begins, we will issue refunds and transfers. If camp closes mid-week, we are unable to offer refunds.

Weather or emergency cancellations: Because we do not use DCPS facilities for camp, we are not obligated to follow their weather cancellations policies, but some of our venues do anyway. If staff can safely get to camp and the facility is available, we will try to hold camp. We are more likely to cancel if the federal government shuts down. We will send emails and post messages to social media if camp is cancelled or delayed due to weather. Make sure your registration email is one you check regularly and follow us on social media.
