Yoga Trapeze for Kids and Teens
Yoga helps children learn techniques for concentrating, reducing stress, and connecting to their bodies in a loving way while having fun. Yoga trapeze classes incorporate more kinds of movements than a mat-based class, many of these movements are lacking in our modern routines.
Benefits of Yoga Trapeze for Children
Suspending upside-down is inherently fun for most children (and adults who are still children at heart). Students are often attracted to the Yoga Trapeze because they want to do “tricks.” But the benefits are many:
- vestibular sensory input
- body awareness
- functional pulling and grip strength
- core strength and awarenes
A yoga practice or exercise routine that integrates The Yoga Trapeze, even if just once or twice per week, includes pushing, pulling, holding, twists, backbends, forward bends, hip opening and so much more. This variety of movement compliments a mat-based yoga practice to create a full-body fitness routine.
Benefits of Yoga Trapeze for Teens
As young children become tweens and teens, the lack of pulling, pushing, and core work in a typical school day creates weakness that limits athletic performance and health. Yoga trapeze practice builds strength and fitness and can also enhance confidence, support risk-taking and decision-making skills, and reduce stress.
Breathing Space classes are offered in semester-format with registration for 4-12 weeks of class at a time. If you missed the start date, registration automatically prorates during checkout. There are no drop-ins to in-person children’s classes. See COVID precautions below.
Camp aftercare is offered pending enrollment minimums. When camp is offered at both Breathing Space and Christ Church, aftercare is held only at the church and studio campers are walked over to aftercare and pickup is at Christ Church. Class Venues and COVID-19 Pubic Health Precautions
Breathing Space is offering classes indoors, outdoors, and over zoom this fall. We encourage students to participate in the way that works best for their family.
We are taking the following steps help mitigate the spread of coronavirus (and other infectious diseases) during indoor classes:
- All participants 5 yrs+ must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination for indoor classes--no exceptions;
- Masks required for students 2 years and older;
- Class sizes are small, so there is room to spread out;
- Studio is well ventilated, with more than the recommended HVAC air-exchange rate, and we run two large air purifiers during classes;
- Students are requested to wash hands upon entry and high-touch surfaces are frequently cleaned;
- Students are expected to follow DC DOH recommendations for quarantine after COVID-19 exposure or travel.
Outdoor classes are will be cancelled/rescheduled for incliment weather. Students must bring their own mats. When approriate distancing can be maintained, masks are optional outside.
Please don't attend class if you or anyone in your family is exhibiting COVID-like symptoms or has recently been exposed to to coronovirus.
