Breathing Space offers classes for the whole family. Adult classes are appropriate for all levels, unless noted.

Upcoming Classes

Our mat and trapeze-based adult yoga classes are offered in multi-week series; drop-ins are welcome in prenatal, postnatal, and all-levels adult yoga. We typically run 4 semesters per year starting in September, January, March, and May.  Workshops and single date classes noted as such. Read our class policies here.

 

Note: Drop-ins welcome in some classes. Miss a start date? Registration automatically prorates until the half-way point in a series.

Weekly Yoga Classes for Adults

Register for a multi-week Series - $18 per class

Classes are offered in a progressive series that builds on the previous classes.  Students make take advantage of our generous makeup policy if they miss a class in the series. 

Pay by the Class - $24 per class

Simply drop in as your schedule allows. Advanced reservation required – as far as 30 days and as little as 30 min in advance. No payments are taken on site.

* All classes subject to DC fitness services tax of 6%. Please note that 5y+ participants of in-person classes must show proof of COVID vaccination and masks may be required if DC transmission rates reach medium or high levels. Read COVID prevention policies.

Parents of children's and family class enrollees are welcome to take prenatal yoga as a makeup class – and vice versa – using the makeup scheduler. Log in to your registration account to reserve. 

Class Descriptions:

Our classes run in sessions, like semesters, which vary in length depending on the season. Teaching is progressive, which means instructors build upon poses and skills from week to week, but drop-in students are welcome when appropriate and space is available.

All Levels Yoga

This class emphasizes the essential poses and alignment principles of a Hatha Yoga practice. Class will incorporate postures (asana), breath connection, meditation, and relaxation. Vinyasa sequences (moving through several poses with breath) will challenge strength, balance, and focus while moving between poses deliberately. Class may also incorporate stillness, longer holds, and wall work and exploration of alignment through use of props. Variations will be offered to enable students to customize the practice for their individual needs. Newer and more experienced practitioners welcome.

Trapeze Yoga

This class incorporates traditional yoga asana, breathwork, and relaxation but is based around our YogaBody-style yoga trapeze rigs. Yoga Trapeze inversions counteract gravity, creating space and length in the spine though simple, gentle, bodyweight traction. Trapeze work also includes functional pulling and grip strength often missing in a mat-based yoga practice to create a full-body fitness routine. Read more.

Prerequisite: Prior semester, Intro to Yoga Trapeze, or by permission.

Postnatal Yoga

This class is designed for parents recovering from childbirth and looking for a supportive class to help build strength and fitness and reduce stress. Class will incorporate modified yoga asana with an emphasis on stability, breath work, focus and relaxation activities, and a connecting to a supportive parenting community.

Generally, evening in-person and weekend classes are for the parent-only, unless noted. Weekday classes and any class over Zoom welcomes babies, but they are not the focus.

Prenatal Yoga

In this all-levels yoga class, students will cultivate the flexibility, concentration and strength needed during the transformative time of pregnancy and childbirth. Enjoy the community of other pregnant parents while we practice modified yoga postures, breath work, vocal toning, meditation, and relaxation. No previous yoga experience necessary. Workshops, special multi-week courses, and camps have their own pricing and policies. See individual workshop pages for details. Class passes and make-up policies do not apply unless specifically noted.

Single Date Non-Camp Workshops

  • More Than 7 Days Before Session/Event:  Refund or credit issued in full minus a $5 or 4% processing fee (whichever is larger).
  • More Than 48 Hours Before Session/Event: Refund issued in at 80% minus $5 processing fee.
  • No refunds within 48 hours of an event.

Because your reservation represents a space in class or camp that was held for you and not available for purchase by other students, there are no refunds issued after the dates listed above. Under extraordinary circumstances, we will suspend registration to be used in a later session.

We offer classes in multi-week series. There are lots of benefits to committing to a weekly class but we understand that life happens. We have a very generous makeup policy. We allow students to make up in nearly any other class on our schedule in the same semester and allow family members to take makeups in the registered student’s place.

This is quite flexible. For example, if you miss a baby yoga class and there isn’t another that suits your schedule, you may bring your toddler to Little Family Yoga as a make up. If you miss Little Family Yoga you may take a prenatal yoga class or come to Baby & Toddler Singing Time (weekly class, not weekend workshop). Parents of children enrolled in a class make take any adult mat class on our schedule as a makeup.

Additionally, anytime we have a “Pop-Up” class on the schedule, that can be a makeup (pop ups must be reserved in advance). You can even send different adult family members to do the makeup class. Students may make up in any location.

Note: Due to space constraints and safety considerations, students may only makeup in a trapeze class if they are registered in another trapeze class.

Finally, we allow continuing students to take a “makeup” by taking a discount on their registration in the subsequent semester. See below.


Makeup Scheduling Online

There is a makeup scheduler in the MainStreetSites registration system. You must be logged into your account for the makeup scheduler to appear and you must be enrolled in a class for makeup spots to be available.

Once you are logged in, simply choose an appropriate makeup from the classes that appear. The student drop-down must match the enrolled student. If you are sending a different student than the original enrollment, just note that in the text field.

Note that toward the end of the semester, there may not be any available makeups in your desired class. We recommend scheduling your makeup as soon as you know you will miss and when you can attend instead. Makeups do not carry over to the next semester.


Yoga Trapeze Makeups

Note: Due to space constraints and safety considerations, students may only makeup in a trapeze class if they are registered in another trapeze class.

Students who miss a trapeze class may make up in any other appropriate class, trapeze or mat-based.

  • Use the makeup scheduler to reserve another Yoga Trapeze class or
  • Email us to let us know you’d like to attend something else.

Workshop Makeups: Infant Massage, Birth & Baby Series

Many of our workshops are one time events and there is no makeup option if you do not attend. See our workshop enrollment and refund policies for details.

For short series classes such as Infant Massage, students may attend the same class in a subsequent series as a makeup. Those makeups are not in the scheduler. Email us to confirm.
